Who they are
Sam Bankman-Fried, known as SBF, founded the FTX exchange and the Alameda Research trading firm. For a time he was celebrated as one of the most powerful and respectable figures in crypto.
History
In November 2022 FTX collapsed after revelations that billions in customer funds had been funneled to Alameda. He was convicted on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy in 2024 and sentenced to 25 years in prison; his appeal was denied in June 2026. Posts from his account since 2025 are believed to be relayed by a spokesperson while he is imprisoned.
