Brett (Boy's Club) is a blue humanoid character from Matt Furie's 2000s comic 'Boy's Club,' the same universe that gave the internet Pepe the Frog. On Base he was revived as the chain's flagship memecoin.
Origin
Brett first appeared in Matt Furie's 'Boy's Club,' a mid-2000s zine following four roommate characters: Pepe, Brett, Andy and Landwolf. While Pepe left the page and conquered the internet, Brett stayed a cult favorite among Furie fans, the calm, level-headed one of the group.
Spread
In February 2024 a community launched BRETT on Coinbase's Base chain. With Pepe already an Ethereum giant, traders cast Brett as the 'boy's club' mascot of Base, and it quickly became the most valuable memecoin native to the chain, a rallying symbol for the young ecosystem.
Legacy
Brett became shorthand for Base's memecoin scene and a case study in how an overlooked character from an existing universe can be revived by a new chain hunting for an identity of its own.
