This article is about the internet meme. For the original Solana memecoin, see Burnie Senders ($BURNIE).

Burnie Senders Senders is a cartoon communist invented on a launchpad. The character is a Soviet sleeper agent drawn to look like Senator Bernie Sanders, who defends free everything and taxing the rich in confident broken English and then accidentally explains, sentence by sentence, why the plan always ends in empty shelves and a queue. The whole product is reverse psychology: every policy briefing the project publishes is an argument against itself, filed under headings like the central committee, seizing the means of production, and gulags for fudders. The contract was minted on pump.fun at 17:30:59 UTC on 1 April 2026 and was worth almost nothing for two days. On 3 April its first real pool opened at 03:08:37 UTC, X spun up a trending topic at 05:49 UTC about Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko boosting it with Bernie satire, and the token closed that day up roughly a hundredfold on 6.4 million dollars of volume. BingX listed a perpetual on 7 April, BitMart listed the spot pair on 29 April, and the market capitalisation peaked near 25 million dollars on 8 May. It is a PolitiFi coin whose politician is fictional, which is the only reason anybody can write about it without a lawyer.

Layer 1 · The Lore

Origin

The mint is the first receipt and the only one that cannot be edited. Pump.fun records Burnie Senders, ticker BURNIE, at CGEDT9QZDvvH5GmVkWJH2BXiMJqMJySC9ihWyr7Spump, created at 17:30:59 UTC on 1 April 2026 by wallet 7YeCaAqhzhtRio1mddqaQzhvWRWXEsm4GSyfm4VwDsvL. The on-chain description field, written at launch, reads: "Burnie Senders is the Soviet sleeper agent Toly warned you about. A proud, unapologetic communist who still believes the plan is perfect. Every time he opens his mouth to defend free everything, tax the rich, and equality for all he accidentally shows why it always ends in empty shelves, endless lines." That sentence matters more than anything the project has said since, because it names its own target audience before a single dollar had traded. This was not a meme that found Solana. It was a meme built to be handed to one specific person on Solana. The raw material is older than the coin by about forty years. Bernie Sanders spent part of his 1988 honeymoon in Yaroslavl in the Soviet Union, in his capacity as mayor of Burlington, Vermont, arranging a sister city relationship. Footage from that trip has been recycled by his opponents in every campaign since, and the shorthand joke that the senator is a sleeper agent who never got the recall signal is one of the oldest reusable gags in American political posting. Burnie Senders takes that gag, gives it a name one letter and one vowel away from the real one, and drops it into a market where the punchline can have a price. The second layer of the joke is that Solana's co-founder is an actual former Soviet subject. Yakovenko has said publicly that his family emigrated from the USSR with fifty dollars per person. A character invented to bait him into arguing about central planning was, by construction, extremely likely to work.

Spread

It worked on the third day. GeckoTerminal shows the PumpSwap pool 5tYFviFWQRKV9BJSTHGitbdqEYC1BGUgRUDnSADUXqJP opening at 03:08:37 UTC on 3 April 2026. The daily candle for 3 April opens at 0.0000301 dollars and closes at 0.00326, with an intraday high of 0.00421 and 6.4 million dollars of volume, which against the roughly one billion supply is a move from about thirty thousand dollars of market capitalisation to about four million in under twenty four hours. At 05:49 UTC that same morning, an hour and a half after the pool opened, X published a trending topic titled "Solana Co-Founder Yakovenko Boosts $BURNIE Memecoin with Bernie Satire." The reported quote tweets are the sort of thing that reads as a shrug and lands as a starting pistol: "Sleeper for 2028?" and "My quantum my president." Later coverage also cites him floating a four hundred million dollar market cap target. He never invested in it and never endorsed it, which is exactly the interaction the launch description was engineered to produce. The exchanges arrived faster than the fundamentals. BingX listed a BURNIEUSDT perpetual on 7 April 2026, four days after the first pool. BitMart announced its BM Discovery listing on 29 April 2026 at 04:36 UTC with the pair going live at 05:00 UTC, and the daily candle for 29 April holds a high of 0.01563, roughly 15.2 million dollars. The actual top came nine days later. On 8 May 2026 the token opened at 0.00895, printed 0.02592 in the 03:00 UTC hour on 9.4 million dollars of volume, and closed the day back at 0.01229. Against the on-chain supply that high implies a peak near 25.1 million dollars, reached and surrendered inside a single session. June brought the strange part, which is that the real Bernie Sanders and the real Anatoly Yakovenko then had the argument the cartoon had been miming since April. Sanders warned that AI and robotics could eliminate millions of American jobs and renewed his call to ban super PACs. Yakovenko dismissed it across several posts, saying Sanders is focusing on hypothetical sci fi problems because he is completely useless at solving any real problems, and arguing that central planning rather than automation is what actually costs workers. BeInCrypto covered the exchange on 7 June 2026. The coin did not cause the argument. It just got there first and had a chart. The copies followed the usual route. An Ethereum contract using the same name and ticker appeared on 16 April 2026 at 0xb1264492110576EBB12d5D322E2FFB1ba554431a, a second Ethereum version on 23 April at 0x24E599a0960f80D30a6647e4c8ce9118b7CF6B30, and a Robinhood Chain version on 11 July at 0x20fCDAC6cBC1b044213f5D229864090565eC72e6. None of them predates the Solana mint.

Legacy

PolitiFi as a genre has a structural problem, which is that its subjects are real people who did not consent, are frequently litigious, and occasionally get elected. Burnie Senders sidesteps all of it by being a fictional character with a fictional name, a fictional biography and a website that opens by calling itself pure satire with no intrinsic value. Nobody has to argue about whether the senator is involved, because the thing on the chart is not the senator. That is a small piece of design that most of the category never bothered with. What the token documents is a specific 2026 launch technique: write the bait into the immutable metadata, then wait. The description named Toly before the pool existed. Two days later the pool existed, Toly played along, and X built a trending page about it. Attention was not marketed to, it was pre-addressed. Every launchpad watcher who read that candle learned the same lesson, which is why the second quarter of 2026 is full of tokens whose on-chain descriptions are addressed to one person with a large following. Four and a half months on, the joke has outlived the run. Checked on 22 August 2026 the token holds roughly 2.4 million dollars of market capitalisation on about 289,000 dollars of liquidity in its main pool, with fourteen live pools across PumpSwap, Meteora and Orca agreeing on price to within a few percent, and around 344,000 dollars of daily volume. That is ninety percent below the May high and still a functioning market, which puts it in the small minority of April 2026 launchpad tokens that are anything at all in August. The on-chain supply now reads a little under a billion, somewhere between 969.7 and 980.2 million depending on which snapshot you pull, so the thing named Burnie has in fact been burning.
