Dancing Alligator (Rela no Jacaré)
This article is about the internet meme. For the original Solana memecoin, see rela no jacaré ($jacaré).
Dancing Alligator (Rela no Jacaré) Dancing Alligator is a nine minute greenscreen clip of a cartoon reptile shuffling in place, uploaded to YouTube in December 2020 by a channel that made greenscreen assets and nothing else. It sat there for years collecting a few thousand views, which is roughly the correct amount of attention for a nine minute looping alligator. Then TikTok found it twice. The first time, in July 2024, English speaking editors turned it into the You're not a dancing alligator CapCut template. The second time, in July 2026, Brazil got hold of it, renamed it rela no jacaré, and made it a national reflex. The Solana version arrived on 18 July 2026, ran quietly for nine days, and then on 27 July roughly ten separate contracts using the same name appeared inside a few hours, most of them with a single pool, no socials and a half billion dollar market cap that does not survive contact with a second data source.
Origin
On 22 December 2020 the YouTube channel KAGI GREEN SCREEN posted a greenscreen video of an animated alligator dancing for around nine minutes. It was a stock asset, made to be keyed onto other footage, and it accumulated roughly twenty thousand views over four years, which is to say it was ignored. The alligator's first real outing came on 1 May 2022, when the TikTok account @puffer09 posted a version of it dancing in front of a plate of baked beans with singing over the top. That clip passed six million plays in two years and established the two things the meme would keep for the rest of its life: the alligator always does the same shuffle, and the joke is always the absurdity of whatever it has been pasted onto.
Spread
The first mass wave came in July 2024, when the clip became a CapCut template set to Take Me In Your Arms by Lil Suzy. The format was self describing: a caption reading You're not a dancing alligator over footage of a person, who then becomes the dancing alligator. On 11 July 2024 the TikTok account @evantsantes posted a version that took over twelve million plays and 1.8 million likes inside a week, and Know Your Meme opened an entry for the format the following week. The second wave, and the one that matters here, is Brazilian and much more recent. In early July 2026 the alligator resurfaced in Portuguese language feeds as a sticker and an audio under the phrase rela no jacaré, and it spread across TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and Roblox edits within days. MemePedia dates the wave from the posts themselves, since TikTok video IDs carry an embedded creation timestamp: a widely reshared rela no jacaré upload decodes to 12 July 2026, and the video the Solana token later cited as its source decodes to 17 July 2026. Tenor now files the clip under both jacaré dance meme and meme brasileiro. Know Your Meme has not opened a separate entry for the Brazilian revival, so as of 28 July 2026 this is a documented trend without a documented first post, and MemePedia does not claim to know who said it first.
Legacy
The Brazilian revival produced one of the cleanest launch swarms MemePedia has recorded. The first tradeable contract, ticker jacaré, opened a PumpSwap pool on 18 July 2026 at 12:34 UTC, six days after the earliest dated video we can find and one day after the video its own page points at. For nine days it was the only one. Then on 27 July, as the meme peaked, at least ten further contracts using the name Rela No Jacaré were deployed on Solana between roughly 17:00 and 21:20 UTC, plus one on Robinhood Chain. Nine of the ten Solana copies have exactly one liquidity pool, no website, no X account and no Telegram, and report market caps between fifty and six hundred million dollars against liquidity in the low millions. Those numbers are the single sided pool artefact MemePedia flags elsewhere: with one pool and no second price to check against, the reported cap is whatever that pool's own maths says it is. Measured across pools instead, the two contracts with real communities were trading near forty eight thousand and one hundred and ninety two thousand dollars. The meme is real, the volume is real, and almost none of the market caps are.
