Eat Ramen
This article is about the internet meme. For the original Solana memecoin, see Ramen Plan ($RAMEN).
Eat Ramen 6 August 2026 at 01:37 UTC, Texas congressman Dan Crenshaw ended a viral argument about a twenty dollar burrito by telling everyone to stop whining, get a job and eat Ramen like the rest of us did in college. He said in the same post that he was doing it to make the losers on social media angry before going to bed. It worked, mostly on his own side. Within a day the line was shorthand for the whole Republican affordability fight, X had bolted a community note onto it, and the following morning a Solana token called Ramen Plan appeared with a cup of instant noodles in a business tie as its mascot.
Origin
The burrito came first. On 4 August 2026 Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet posted a college student's complaint that a burrito should not cost twenty dollars, and blamed inflation. On 5 August the right spent the day arguing with itself about it. Ben Shapiro objected to conservatives talking about affordability without free market answers. Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen replied that a burrito only costs twenty dollars if you order it on DoorDash. Vice President JD Vance answered Thiessen by going after his weight, writing that the man has never missed a burrito, and misspelling his name while doing it. Crenshaw arrived last, just before midnight Eastern, and posted the version that outlived all of them: "Just hearing about this dumb $20 burrito debate so just thought I'd make the losers on social media angry before going to bed. Stop whining, get a job, eat Ramen like the rest of us did in college, on a budget with 4 roommates. The market doesn't care what you think something 'should' cost. Only communists care (they set prices remember? Then everyone starves, remember?) Are you a communist? Or are you an American adult male capable of handling his own shit?" The timing did him no favours. Crenshaw had lost his March 2026 Republican primary to Steve Toth, the first House member to lose renomination in the 2026 cycle and the only Texas House Republican who sought re-election without a Trump endorsement, so the post landed as a lame duck lecturing the voters who had just fired him.
Spread
The beating came from his own side. Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz called him politically incompetent and pointed at the primary loss. MAGA pundit Ryan James Girdusky did the same. Auron MacIntyre, Christian Heiens, Blaze TV's John Doyle, Montana Libertarian Party vice chair Liam McCollum and former Tucker Carlson staffer Eduardo Neret all piled on. Users resurfaced Crenshaw's own September 2021 post mocking the Biden administration for supposedly telling Americans to go vegan and stop complaining about food prices, and X eventually attached a community note saying exactly that. The reply count is the tell: by 8 August the post sat at roughly 3,000 replies against 137 reposts, which is the internet's standard way of saying nobody wanted to be seen agreeing with it. HuffPost, The Daily Beast, Raw Story, The Hill, Crooks and Liars and IBTimes all covered it on 6 August, most of them leading with the ramen and not the burrito. Reason published a piece the same day arguing the underlying inflation numbers were more boring than either camp wanted. Mike Pence's nonprofit Advancing American Freedom, sensing an opening, published a Burrito Index putting the real price between 11.35 dollars in Des Moines and 14.10 dollars in San Francisco. By then the price of a burrito had stopped mattering and "the ramen plan" was the joke: an entire cost of living crisis answered with a fifty cent packet of noodles.
Legacy
The on-chain part is unusually slow and unusually ugly. Most 2026 news memes get a contract inside a minute. This one waited about thirty four hours. The first Solana mint named Ramen Plan was created on pump.fun on 7 August 2026 at 11:33:47 UTC, cites the Crenshaw post as its only link, and went absolutely nowhere: it bonded and then sat at roughly 1,300 dollars of market cap. Twenty one minutes and fifty two seconds later, at 11:55:39 UTC, a second Solana mint with the identical name and the identical linked post appeared, and that one is the entire market. It ran to about 2.19 million dollars of market cap on 116,000 dollars of liquidity with 1.8 million dollars of volume in a day, and it came with a finished brand: a website at ramensol.fun, a mascot cup of instant noodles wearing a tie, a downloadable asset pack, a colour palette and a meme generator. The site's own pitch is better written than most of the news coverage, arguing that when a system cannot improve reality it asks you to lower your expectations instead. It carries no disclaimer of any kind, which is a choice when your entire product is a sitting congressman's quote. Then the copies arrived on schedule. Four BNB Chain mirrors called Ramen Plan, all with addresses ending 7777, were deployed between 12:28 and 12:52 UTC, with more on 8 August. A Robinhood Chain token called Ramen Boy landed at 13:14. At 16:28 and 16:29 UTC a completely separate swarm of at least a dozen contracts called Noodles and Noodlescoin went out across Solana, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain inside ninety seconds, two of them wearing unrelated meme names like Thousand Yard Stare and Dog In Shock behind the Noodles ticker. A Ramen On Robinhood cluster followed at 21:03. On 8 August four more Solana contracts called Ramen Plan appeared, one of which reports about 249,000 dollars of market cap out of a pool holding nothing at all. At least fifteen distinct contracts now carry the name across four chains. The man told people to eat cheap and the market immediately found fifteen ways to sell it to them.
