In a June 2024 'Talk Tuah' street interview posted by Tim & Dee TV, Tennessee woman Haliey Welch mimed a spitting sound ('hawk tuah') to describe a sex act. The clip went viral overnight.
Spread
Welch became an instant celebrity with merch, a podcast ('Talk Tuah') and mainstream media appearances. In December 2024 she launched the $HAWK token on Solana, which crashed from a ~$500M peak to ~$60M within 20 minutes, drawing a Coffeezilla investigation and a class-action lawsuit.
Legacy
A textbook case of a viral meme monetized into a rug-pull-style crypto collapse; the SEC closed its probe into Welch without charges in March 2025 while a private lawsuit continued.
