Hoppy is a small green frog, the first frog cartoonist Matt Furie ever drew, predating Pepe, later revived by crypto communities as a memecoin.
Origin
Hoppy first appeared in Matt Furie's 2012 wordless picture book 'The Night Riders' (McMullens), as a nocturnal frog who, with a rat companion, eats a midnight salad and embarks on a dirtbike adventure toward the sunrise. Because Furie created him before Boy's Club and Pepe, Hoppy is often described as the proto-Pepe frog.

As frog-themed memecoins exploded in 2023-2024, communities mined Furie's pre-Pepe lore and deployed 'Hoppy' tokens across Ethereum and Solana. The Solana HOPPY launched in late December 2024 with a minimalist, silent-character ethos ('Live lightly. Hop joyfully.'). The flagship liquidity historically lived on Ethereum.
