Origin
The trend crystallized in January 2025 when TikTok user @eZburger401 posted the shark character Tralalero Tralala, whose nonsense phrase traces back to October 2023 AI videos of Dwayne Johnson rhyming absurdities. Copycat characters (Bombardiro Crocodilo, Ballerina Cappuccina, Brr Brr Patapim) followed within weeks.
Spread
The formula (grotesque AI visual + synthesized Italian text-to-speech + fake lore) proved endlessly remixable, spawning hundreds of characters, tier-list videos, wiki fandoms and school-kid catchphrases through 2025. It became the defining 'brainrot' aesthetic of the year alongside Skibidi Toilet.
Legacy
Italian Brainrot turned AI slop into a participatory folklore engine and pushed dozens of characters onto pump.fun. Some entries drew criticism for blasphemous or war-referencing source audio.
