Origin
In December 2004 Gary Brolsma recorded himself in his chair gleefully performing to O-Zone's Eurodance hit, which fans nicknamed "Numa Numa" after a lyric. He posted it to Newgrounds and it exploded.
Spread
Before YouTube existed, the clip circulated through Flash portals, email forwards, and news segments, racking up hundreds of millions of views across mirrors. Imitators filmed their own versions and the song itself became a global earworm.
Legacy
