Origin

The @pakalupapito Twitter account launched on July 12, 2013 with the inaugural post "hello twitter I am single," which went on to collect over 17,000 retweets and roughly 6,000 favorites. The bit was a fictional Indian shop clerk delivering puns and deliberately broken English, with a running joke about being romantically devoted to his camel. The avatar was not a character drawing but a photograph of a real man, widely reported to be Om Prakash of IIT Kanpur, who never asked to become the face of anything. The identity behind the keyboard was never confirmed: Wikipedia records competing accounts of Prakash as a technician and as a faculty member, while the Free Press Journal alleged the operator was an Indian man working for a tech support firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The account itself never settled the question.

The persona escaped Twitter fast. A Facebook page followed on September 2, 2013 and gathered more than 478,000 likes within two years, an Urban Dictionary entry was submitted on October 5, 2013, and an Imgur gallery of greatest hits went up on March 17, 2014. MensXP ran a 36-tweet compilation on April 20, 2015, and by that year the Twitter account held roughly 739,000 followers, with the character adopted as a mascot by Reddit's r/indianpeoplefacebook. In 2015 a separate "Xavier Uncle" account appeared using the identical avatar. When Pakalu Papito's Twitter was suspended and the Facebook profile deleted in 2018, the face outlived its author: Xavier accounts inherited the mustache and kept posting, with Xavier Uncle deactivating and then returning during the COVID-19 period in 2020. Know Your Meme frames Xavier as the first actual Indians to take up the face and gimmick, trading Papito's broken-English clerk stereotype for Hindi-language posts and Indian trends. The format hardened into a reply-guy template: an image or topic sitting above a witless comment signed Xavier. The backlash was part of the appeal, and a subreddit called r/fuckxavier organized specifically to defend the original Papito against his own copycats.

Legacy

Pakalu Papito helped establish the gimmick account as a durable meme format, the single-joke persona that outlasts any individual post. Its afterlife is messier and more instructive: a real man's photograph became a decade-long internet character across two continents and several waves of imitators, none of whom asked him, and the meme is now cited as much for that consent problem as for the jokes. The Xavier era proved the face had become public property. Hindustan Times reported in April 2023 that the account operator was moving on to work at a well-known Indian law firm, by which point Xavier Uncle Lite had passed 90,000 followers. A Solana memecoin trading as Xavier launched on June 28, 2026, citing the Know Your Meme entry as its own reference material.
