Spoderman
This article is about the internet meme. For the original Solana memecoin, see Spooderman ($spooder).
Spoderman is a Spider-Man drawn badly on purpose in MS Paint, handed a vocabulary of roughly six misspelled words, and set loose on the internet in 2012. He belongs to the Dolan comics, the strand of humour whose entire joke is that nobody in it can spell, and his catchphrase sweg outlived most of the memes that were funnier than him. In late July 2026 he came back twice at once, pushed by a Spider-Man film opening and by a nostalgia trend that spent the year rebuilding 2016, and two pump.fun contracts that had sat untouched since March 2024 suddenly had markets on them.
Origin
The earliest Spoderman on record was posted to FunnyJunk on 29 March 2012 by a user going by evilfederation: a wobbly MS Paint Spider-Man head, drawn with the confidence of someone who has never seen a mouse before. It collected more than 770 upvotes and 64,000 views over the following five years, which is a long tail for a site most people have forgotten. The character was absorbed into the Dolan universe within a day. On 30 March 2012 the FunnyJunk user koalablast posted a Dolan comic in which the character transforms and announces so many spoders, and from that point Spoderman was a fixed member of a cast built around deliberate illiteracy. He got a voice on 12 April 2012, when the YouTube channel Dolan Duk uploaded The Uncle Dolan Show Episode 1, which had passed 1.5 million views by August 2017.
Spread
Spoderman outgrew the comics on YouTube. Two dedicated channels launched on 23 July 2012, one of which reached over 329,000 subscribers and 31.6 million total views. Its most popular upload, Spoderman: How to Have Swag from 15 January 2013, took more than 2.6 million views in four and a half years by teaching an audience of children a made up word. The vocabulary was the format: sweg instead of swag, spoder instead of spider, every line spelled wrong in the same specific way, and the humour sitting somewhere between charming and genuinely unpleasant depending on which upload you found. By 2016 the meme was old enough to explain, and on 9 September 2016 the channel Behind the Meme published What is spoderman?, which took over 780,000 views inside a year. Explainer videos are usually a death certificate. Spoderman survived his, moved to TikTok, and kept getting recreated with filters and, later, with AI video tools.
Legacy
The July 2026 revival is the clearest example MemePedia has of two unrelated nostalgia engines firing at the same target. The first is 2026 is the new 2016, a trend that surfaced in late December 2025 and spent the first half of 2026 dragging back dabbing, the mannequin challenge and Pokemon Go under the hashtag BringBack2016. The second is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, whose first trailer landed on 11 June 2026 and which Sony said passed 1.1 billion views in four days, with a final trailer on 21 July and a US release on 31 July 2026. A 2016 nostalgia wave and a Spider-Man release in the same month put a 2012 MS Paint drawing back in front of an audience that had aged fourteen years. The market response was faster than the culture. Two Spooderman contracts minted on pump.fun in March 2024, dormant for two years, had liquidity pools opened for them in 2026, and once the larger one started trading on 28 July a swarm of imitations arrived inside 48 hours, including one whose ticker is a right-to-left override character so its name renders backwards on explorers while it reports an 82 million dollar market cap, plus a block of Robinhood Chain deployments sharing a 7777 vanity address suffix, which is one automated deployer rather than a movement.
