Wi Wi Wi Cat orange kitten called Pepe makes a noise while eating that sounds like wi wi wi, and occasionally uyayaya. That is the entire meme. It should have died in a week. Instead the audio became the backing track for hopecore, the TikTok genre where wholesome footage of people, animals and landscapes is stitched into a montage designed to make you feel briefly all right about being alive, and the numbers went somewhere absurd. One edit took 99.2 million views in a single week. The cat has been earning for two and a half years and has never seen a cent.
Origin
The first video came from TikTok user @chocoquierellorarr_ on 28 January 2024 and is nothing more than her orange kitten Pepe eating out of a bowl and vocalising while he does it. It took 16.6 million views and 3.9 million likes in its first year. A repost by @aramoix_xiomara on 2 February 2024, recaptioned with nothing but the sound itself and a heart-eyes face, added another 7.2 million views and 793,000 likes, which is the usual pattern where the repost does more work spreading a clip than the original. On 16 March 2024 the same owner posted a second Pepe video, and that one is the piece of audio that the trend actually runs on. It reached 34.4 million views and 7.5 million likes in a year. A separate grey and white kitten sitting in its food bowl, posted by @gatosdeapoyo on 17 January 2025 over Pepe's audio, took 76.6 million views and 14.8 million likes in one month and detached the sound from the animal that made it.

The format arrived on 1 February 2025, when @timson__1...2...3 paired the audio with a montage of nature clips and set it to Dramamine by Flawed Mangoes, an April 2024 track with over 5.2 million YouTube views and 24 million Spotify streams that had already been circulating as shorthand for quiet sincerity. That first edit took 14 million views and 2.3 million likes. Nine days later, on 10 February 2025, another edit in the same shape took 99.2 million views and 17.1 million likes inside a week. By mid February 2025 it had crossed onto Instagram and X and become the default hopecore opener: kitten noise, then sunsets, then strangers hugging, then you feeling something against your will. The joke and the sincerity are load bearing in equal parts, which is why it outlived every ironic cat sound that arrived at the same time and became a standard profile picture rather than a passing sound.
Legacy
Wi Wi Wi Cat is the purest artefact of hopecore, the counter-programming that grew directly out of brainrot exhaustion, and it holds up because it asks nothing of the viewer. Pepe is not doing a bit. He is eating. Everything sentimental attached to him was attached by strangers. Its crypto history is the usual latecomer story with an unusually long gap. The oldest Solana contract using the name was minted on 10 November 2025, twenty two months after the first video, and still sits at roughly 2,600 dollars of liquidity, which is a contract that exists rather than a market. The one people actually bought was minted on 30 July 2026 at 20:47:02 UTC, nine seconds after the X post cited on its pump.fun listing, and it bonded and reached about 180,000 dollars of market cap within two days. It also detonated the standard swarm: a separate Wi Wi Wi Kitten contract on 1 August 2026 with its own site and community, plus a rack of BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain mirrors deployed on 1 and 2 August 2026, many of them sharing the 7777 address suffix that has become the signature of that particular clone factory. Nobody has asked @chocoquierellorarr_ about any of it.
