World Licking Cat
This article is about the internet meme. For the original Solana memecoin, see world licking cat ($lickingcat).
World Licking Cat Licking Cat is a four and a half second clip of a heavyset tabby licking a spinning desk globe, which surfaced on X in the small hours of 8 August 2026 and was the internet's default reaction video by lunchtime. The appeal is the scale error: a cat grooming a plastic ball reads, if you squint, as a cat grooming the planet. Within a day people were editing him onto the moon, blaming earthquakes on his tongue and inventing a Cat Earther conspiracy. He landed on International Cat Day, which nobody planned and everybody used. A token carrying his name was minted roughly ten hours after the video went up.
Origin
The earliest widely circulated posting we can verify is from the account @VorosTwins, the Hungarian-Canadian twins Chris and Patrick Vörös, best known online for pronouncing Leonardo da Vinci's surname as "da Vinki." At 01:44 UTC on 8 August 2026 they posted the clip with the caption "Thanks kitty!" It is 4.47 seconds long, 842 by 644 pixels, and shows a large tabby working its tongue methodically across a rotating globe as though the Earth were a paw. That post reached 8.1 million views, 289,000 likes, 52,000 reposts and 16,000 bookmarks. Who actually filmed the cat is not established. The Vörös twins are amplifiers rather than a documented source, their caption thanks the cat rather than crediting a filmer, and no earlier upload surfaced in our checks. We are recording the 01:44 UTC post as the earliest verifiable circulation, not as the origin, and the origin of the underlying footage is open. The date did most of the rest of the work. 8 August is International Cat Day, so the clip dropped into a feed already saturated with cat content and immediately outran all of it.
Spread
The clip behaved like a reaction image rather than a video, which is why it moved so fast. Nine hours in, a small crypto account was already calling it "literally the newest reaction gif on twitter" and noting that anything with the cat in it was pulling traction. X's own trending write-up described thousands of edits: the cat in space, the cat on the moon, the cat shoving the planet along. The jokes converged on the idea that he is responsible for the Earth's behaviour. Users credited him with causing earthquakes, with making weekends go faster, with quakes that NASA is supposedly covering up. "Cat Earther" arrived within the first day, an obvious pun on flat-earth discourse that gave the meme somewhere to go once the straight edits ran out. AI-generated variants followed the way they now always do. The market reacted on the same clock. The Solana mint EjD5Y9NVhXmtEqU7wYvAyZvDWZFQeEuHXFatJmTbpump was created on pump.fun at 11:44 UTC on 8 August 2026, ten hours after the video posted, and its PumpSwap pool HCTZakVpNZPfg9hCE3FoSDtnVJJtgAtNtiVY2wvxXdLN opened 52 minutes later. A dedicated X account, @worldlickingcat, registered at 13:42 UTC the same day and put the contract address in its bio, and worldlickingcat.com links to that exact pool. Then came the swarm, and it is instructive. By 13 August there were at least seven further Solana contracts and nine on the Robinhood chain using the same name and image, including one whose token name is the phrase written backwards with a right-to-left override character. Several of the Solana copies display market capitalisations between 360 million and 950 million dollars. Those numbers are fiction. Each sits in a single Orca pool quoted in USDC that recorded six to eight transactions and one to two thousand dollars of volume in twenty-four hours, which is a price printed by nobody for the benefit of screenshots.
Legacy
It is early and we are not going to pretend a five-day-old cat video has a settled legacy. What it does have is an unusually clean record of how a 2026 meme propagates: a video at 01:44 UTC, mainstream saturation by mid-morning, a token at 11:44 UTC, a dedicated account at 13:42 UTC, and a wave of fake-market-cap clones across two chains inside five days. Ten hours from a cat to a contract. The cat also sits in a specific lineage. Cats have been the internet's baseline unit of virality since lolcats, and the recent Solana era has repeatedly turned single cat clips into markets. What separates this one is the conspiracy hook. Most cat memes are exhausted after the third edit, but a cat that controls the rotation of the Earth is a premise you can keep writing against, and Cat Earther gave the joke a second act within twenty-four hours of the first.

- That post recorded 8.1 million views, 289,000 likes, 52,000 reposts and 16,000 bookmarks.
- Who originally filmed the cat is not established; the Vörös post credits no filmer and no earlier upload was found, so the origin of the footage is left open.
- 8 August 2026 was International Cat Day, which put the clip into an already cat-heavy feed.
- Nine hours after the post, the account @Infinitidigits described it as "literally the newest reaction gif on twitter" at 2.5 million views.
- X's trending write-up documented thousands of edits placing the cat in space and on the moon, plus jokes crediting him with earthquakes, faster weekends and a NASA cover-up, under the label "Cat Earther."
- The Solana mint EjD5Y9NVhXmtEqU7wYvAyZvDWZFQeEuHXFatJmTbpump was created on pump.fun at 11:44 UTC on 8 August 2026, ten hours after the video.
- Its PumpSwap pool HCTZakVpNZPfg9hCE3FoSDtnVJJtgAtNtiVY2wvxXdLN opened at 12:36 UTC on 8 August 2026, and worldlickingcat.com links to that pool.
- The @worldlickingcat account was created at 13:42 UTC on 8 August 2026 and carries the contract address in its bio.
- By 13 August 2026 at least seven further Solana contracts and nine Robinhood-chain contracts reused the name and artwork, including one whose name is the phrase reversed with a right-to-left override character.
- Several clones display 360 million to 950 million dollar market capitalisations from single Orca USDC pools with six to eight trades and one to two thousand dollars of volume in twenty-four hours, so those figures are not real prices.
