Origin
The body is edited from a panel of the manga Gantz, with a crude rage face stretched onto it. It surfaced around 2010 to 2011 on Tumblr and reddit as a fill-in-the-blank complaint format.
Spread
The Y U NO template spread fast because it was pure Mad Libs: swap in any product, person, or pet that frustrates you. It became one of the most-templated rage images of 2011, spawning countless topical variants.
Legacy
Y U No Guy is a defining example of the deliberately broken internet English of the early 2010s, its ungrammatical phrasing part of the joke. The face is still used ironically to mimic that era's voice.
