Jotchua
This article is about the internet meme. For the original Solana memecoin, see PERRO DINERO ($JOTCHUA).
Jotchua is a golden retriever puppy from an adoption post in Monterrey, Mexico who was renamed by the internet three separate times and then tokenised four separate times, none of which he consented to. Spanish-speaking shitposters found the photo in late 2020 or early 2021, called him Perro Dinero, and attached a superstition to him: set the picture as your profile picture and money arrives. On 24 January 2021 the Instagram account @_kingorange put the word JOTCHUA under the same face and that spelling stuck to the English-speaking web. His real name, printed in the listing next to a black littermate called Abel, was Cain. Both puppies were adopted the day the photos went up, so the internet has spent five years praying to a dog it never met and getting the name wrong on purpose. The market caught up in December 2023 with an Ethereum contract, then a Solana one in January 2025, then the one that actually worked in June 2026, and then on 20 August 2026 somebody launched a separate token off the real name.
Origin
The source image comes from a Facebook adoption group post out of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, photographed by whoever was rehoming the litter. Know Your Meme's entry on the meme records the listing naming the golden puppy Cain and his black-furred littermate Abel, and notes that both were adopted the same day the pictures were posted. The photographer is not credited anywhere in the public record and no archived copy of the original listing has surfaced, which is why the exact upload date is not nailed down. What is dated is the spread. Know Your Meme's earliest logged appearance is 6 January 2021, when the page K's Randoms switched its profile picture to the puppy. The Spanish-language web had already named him Perro Dinero, money dog, and built a small superstition around him: use the image as your avatar and your finances improve. It is the cheapest financial advice ever given and it has a better track record than most of the accounts that later quoted it. The English name arrived on 24 January 2021, when Instagram user @_kingorange uploaded a demotivational-poster edit with JOTCHUA written under the dog. Know Your Meme records roughly 29,000 likes on it within three months and lists it as the earliest known upload tying the animal to that spelling. Nobody has produced a convincing account of where the spelling came from beyond it being Joshua run through a keyboard at two in the morning, and the meme is better for that. The names Cain and Abel went public separately. On 28 March 2021 the Facebook shitpost page Recreo Shitpost posted the two puppies together captioned Cain y Abel, which is how English audiences learned that the money dog had a biblical name and a brother, and that the brother was black and had been cropped out of every version they had ever seen.
Spread
January and February 2021 did the work. K's Randoms posted a Hello schizo comic on 20 January 2021 that Know Your Meme credits with over 9,000 reactions, and a YouTube version on 22 January 2021 that passed 427,000 views inside three months. A deep-fried edit hit Imgur on 3 February 2021, Twitter picked it up on 8 February 2021 through @darkthanos and @Crisscrafter, and on 11 April 2021 @Mechazawa put the dog in a Persona-themed video that cleared 7,300 likes. From there the face settled into the general reaction-image supply, which is where memes go when they stop being an event and start being furniture. The crypto phase came in three waves and each one behaved differently. On 14 December 2023 a Uniswap pool opened on Ethereum for a token named PERRO DINERO trading under the ticker JOTCHUA, contract 0x808C16ACe7404777FE24a6777a9Cb2335Aa82451. It is the earliest tokenisation of this dog that survives on a public chart, and checked on 20 August 2026 it is still there, quietly holding about 59,000 dollars of market capitalisation against roughly 39,000 dollars of liquidity, which is more dignity than most 2023 dog coins managed. On 12 January 2025 a Solana version named Perro Dinero, ticker Jotchua, opened on Raydium at mint 6fzzoZBkaQVqhKWq89i1CzRE9BVMC9G6S1AYCNCtow9j. Its website is jotchuaog.net, which advertises OG status thirteen months after the Ethereum contract already existed. Checked on 20 August 2026 it holds about 2,300 dollars of market cap, so the claim and the chart are having an argument that the chart is winning. The one that actually moved is mint BcHEaaTCvycPwwsJ9yQTXdHP9X2gCLkznDbZ8VySpump, created on pump.fun at 04:22:27 UTC on 7 June 2026 and pooled on PumpSwap at 05:15:25 UTC the same morning. CoinGecko records its all-time high at 0.01373 dollars on 27 June 2026, which against the roughly 999.9 million supply is a peak near 13.7 million dollars. Its site states that fees are redirected to @_kingorange, the account Know Your Meme credits with inventing the Jotchua spelling, which makes it one of the very few memecoins that pays the person who named the meme. Then the tail. On 19 and 20 August 2026 a cluster of fresh Solana contracts appeared under the name Jotchua quoting market capitalisations between 1.2 and 3.9 billion dollars on daily volumes of around 2,000 dollars, which is what a fake pool looks like when nobody bothers to make the numbers plausible. Anyone shopping for this meme by name rather than by mint will find those first.
Legacy
The joke about Jotchua was always that he makes you money by being looked at, so a market that pays to look at him is either the perfect ending or the point sailing directly overhead. Five years after a Mexican adoption post, the dog has an Ethereum contract, three Solana contracts with real charts, a swarm of fake ones, a fee stream pointed at the man who named him, and a spinoff token named after the name the internet threw away. That spinoff is the interesting part. On 20 August 2026 mint 5FQZH7yHPRinpEyXbp1JewLfFAczB9NZqHGzfnRepump launched under the name Cain with the description "Real name behind Jotchua. The stare that started it all." It peaked near 254,000 dollars of market capitalisation within an hour of opening. The meme has now been running long enough that its own footnotes have market caps, which is roughly the internet equivalent of a band's bass player getting a biopic. Nobody knows what happened to the actual dogs. They were adopted in Monterrey by people who have never come forward, and every version of the image circulating now is a copy of a copy of a rehoming ad. The most-watched golden retriever on the Spanish-speaking web is, as far as the record shows, just some guy's dog.
