Behind the meme was a real dog: Balltze, a Hong Kong Shiba who was adopted at one year old, went viral because a stranger said he looked like cheese, and died in August 2023 to genuine international news coverage.

In July 2026 she picked up a second life online when a Solana token named after her routed its creator fees back to the sanctuary through pump.fun's Charity Coins system, then immediately attracted a swarm of copycat contracts trading on her name.

It became one of the defining memes of the early 2010s and later lent its image and name to Dogecoin, one of the first and most enduring 'joke' cryptocurrencies.

On 10 May 2020 somebody on Twitter said they were in a sad mood and asked for pet pictures. A user replied two hours late with a photo of their dog, a squinting, side eyed, faintly smug animal called Caesar. The original poster quote tweeted it with five words that turned a pet into a sequel: "Doge 2 has been officially released." The joke worked because Doge, the 2010 Kabosu photograph, had spent a decade as the single canonical funny dog face of the internet, and here was a rival with the same energy and no permission. The quote tweet took 25,400 retweets and 140,500 likes inside a day, and the largest Doge communities online spent that day behaving exactly like a religion handling an unauthorised prophet. Six years later, on 22 August 2026, a wallet minted the joke on Solana and the ticker briefly cleared 1.3 million dollars of market capitalisation before losing half of it in a session.

In late 2023 it inspired dogwifhat (ticker WIF), a Solana-based memecoin that, with no stated utility beyond being 'literally just a dog wif a hat,' grew into one of the largest meme coins by market capitalization.

Evil Dog is a cream coloured chihuahua from Ukraine who bares her teeth on command and, for about half a second, looks like she has just finished planning something unforgivable. The clip was posted to TikTok at the very end of December 2022 by the account @wowlaserkiev, captioned in Ukrainian as a smile from Busi, and the face has served as the internet's default confession of devious behaviour ever since. The format needs no editing skill at all: one line of text describing the terrible thing you did, then Busi supplies the expression. It burned slowly through 2023, went quiet, then came back hard in the second half of 2025 when meme pages turned the frame into a daily posting engine. By 2026 the largest of those pages, @evildogi, had roughly 350,000 TikTok followers and a merch store selling plush pillows. In July 2026 the character reached the blockchain the way these things always do, which is to say all at once, on four networks, with nobody having asked Busi's owner.

The pun does double duty: the turtle is going into the ocean, and Frank Ocean the musician is the culture's standing reference for someone who vanishes and cannot be found. The clip picked up a second reading as a small, cheerful version of Werner Herzog's suicidal penguin, and roughly 40 hours after it was posted the name existed as tradeable contracts on three chains.
Harambe1 coin · OG $HARAMBEHarambe was a 17-year-old western lowland gorilla shot and killed by staff at the Cincinnati Zoo on May 28, 2016, after a three-year-old boy fell into his enclosure. The killing sparked international controversy and, within weeks, an enormous wave of internet memes, most infamously the ironic mock-mourning slogan 'dicks out for Harambe', that turned the gorilla into one of the defining memes of 2016.

Ivy is a Pitbull mix born with Short Spine Syndrome, a rare condition that fused her vertebrae and left her with no visible neck and no tail. The result is a dog shaped roughly like a bowling ball with legs, who hops instead of walks, and whose owners joke she was cut with frog DNA. She has been famous since 2021, which by internet standards makes her an elder.

Jotchua is a golden retriever puppy from an adoption post in Monterrey, Mexico who was renamed by the internet three separate times and then tokenised four separate times, none of which he consented to. Spanish-speaking shitposters found the photo in late 2020 or early 2021, called him Perro Dinero, and attached a superstition to him: set the picture as your profile picture and money arrives. On 24 January 2021 the Instagram account @_kingorange put the word JOTCHUA under the same face and that spelling stuck to the English-speaking web. His real name, printed in the listing next to a black littermate called Abel, was Cain. Both puppies were adopted the day the photos went up, so the internet has spent five years praying to a dog it never met and getting the name wrong on purpose. The market caught up in December 2023 with an Ethereum contract, then a Solana one in January 2025, then the one that actually worked in June 2026, and then on 20 August 2026 somebody launched a separate token off the real name.

Kio is a real lion cub born in Kenya's Maasai Mara and followed for four years by a National Geographic crew who set out to film one animal's entire journey from cub to king. The series is called LION, Jon Favreau executive produces it, Hans Zimmer leads the score, the narrator is the man who played Mufasa on stage, and it premieres on 19 August 2026. On 24 June 2026 the marketing revealed a poster with the tagline Rise Of A King. Twelve seconds later a Solana token called Kiongozi | Rise Of A King existed. The lion has not been informed.

Kori is a real Pomeranian in a pink harness who holds one of the strangest records on the internet: her most watched TikTok is technically an advertisement. Posted on 26 April 2025, the clip shows her skateboarding while the mobile puzzle game Block Blast plays, and it cleared a billion views in roughly a month. By the time trade press caught up in early June 2025 it was the most watched TikTok video of the year, about 340 million views ahead of whatever was in second place. Crypto did what crypto does. A token called Kori The Pom went live on letsBONK.fun on 13 May 2025, ran to roughly 58 million dollars of market capitalisation inside two months, and has spent the year since being the rare dog coin whose dog is genuinely more famous than the coin.
Moo Deng1 coin · OG $MOODENGMoo Deng is a female pygmy hippopotamus born July 10, 2024 at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand, whose slippery, expressive appearance made her a global viral sensation in September 2024. Her name translates roughly to 'bouncy pork' or 'bouncy pig,' and her fame inspired the MOODENG memecoin on the Solana blockchain.
Mr Sue is a goldfish who cannot swim on his own and gets around in a custom buoyancy harness his owner built for him, a contraption the internet immediately called a wheelchair. Owner Angela Chaisson made the rig after swim bladder problems left him sinking upside down at the bottom of the tank for months, and the clips of him puttering around upright turned him into an animal celebrity across TikTok, X and Instagram. The story broke wide in mid February 2026 and returned for a second, larger wave in July 2026 when The Dodo and Laughing Squid picked it up. He is frequently described online as the first fish with a wheelchair, which is not true.

The first Solana contract carrying it was minted at 08:49:14 UTC that day, and a second one arrived one second later.

The first Poipoi contract was minted at 11:33 UTC on the day of the announcement and never even finished its bonding curve. Four more followed over the next two days, and the one that finally caught a market was the fifth, which is a fair summary of how animal memes work now: the zoo writes the press release, the internet writes the ticker, and the animal continues to nap through both.

She is the first serious heir to Moo Deng, and she is also the fastest example yet of a zoo animal becoming a traded ticker before it becomes a name.
